The Midwinter Revels
A Scottish Celebration of the Winter Solstice
Tam Lin has been a beloved tale for centuries featuring a story filled with magic and tradition centered around female daring and bravery.
Revolving around the rescue of Tam Lin, audiences witness his true love Margaret save him from the Elfin Queen of the Fairies residing in the woods of Carterhays. Love and trust prevail as Margaret frees Tam Lin from the Queen’s clutches at midnight on the winter solstice.
This adaptation, created by Susan Cooper and Will Rowan, edited and updated by Alex Cumming, is intertwined with traditional Scottish music, dance, and, yes, bagpipes!
Revel North’s final production will include Revels traditions that audiences have come to love and expect including Lord of the Dance, Dona Nobis Pacem, a mummers’ play, and sing-a-longs.
