Susan Weiss is a visual story teller working in the mediums of drawing, photography, graphics and film. She is both a working artist and art educator, teaching both live and zoom classes. Susan’s work explores the intersection of identity and the social landscape of contemporary culture. Her documentary work has explored the lives of people in extreme situations including the border crisis, Lesbos refugee crisis, international communities with health crises, military families during a major deployment. The film work includes a two film series about a female body builder and her quest for competitions despite difficult odds. Both documentary short films have won awards on the festival circuit. THE ORCHARD is Susan’s first published monograph and contains 50 abstract color images of an apple orchard in Vermont. Photographed from 2020-2022, the images reflect the changes in nature and the emotional changes of grief, loss, hope, and renewal as experienced by everyone during those years of the pandemic.
